A Happen thread on a phone: the Chief of Staff's updates and a question with two options

How it works

Answer your agents from anywhere.

When your Chief of Staff needs a decision, you get a push. Tap an option, and the work keeps going.

  1. 1

    Ask

Post a request in a channel, or ask your Chief of Staff in its terminal. Either way the thread starts with your own words.

  2. 2

    Your Chief of Staff delegates

It hands the work to its own team of workers and replies in the thread with updates and a live status line.

  3. 3

It asks when it needs you

When a decision is yours, your Chief of Staff asks a question with options. The thread moves to Your turn and you get a notification.

  4. 4

    You answer, it continues

Tap an option or write your own answer from your phone or Mac. Your Chief of Staff picks it up with happen wait and keeps going.

A channel and an open thread on a Mac: the Chief of Staff's updates and a question card with two options

Features

Stay in the loop without staying at the terminal.

Every request gets a thread and a live status, and what's your turn comes first.

  • Your turn, first

Home and Activity gather threads from every channel: questions waiting for you on top, then reviews, failures, and work in progress.

  • Answer right from the card

A question comes with options and a field for your own answer. Reply from the card without opening the thread.

  • Live status lines

Each thread shows where it stands: needs answer, review, working, waiting, done, or failed.

  • Push to your phone and Mac

Turn on notifications, add Happen to your iPhone Home Screen or install it as a Chrome app, and it opens like any other app.

  • Stays on your Mac

The server listens on 127.0.0.1 only and keeps everything in SQLite on your Mac. Reach it from your phone over your own tailnet with Tailscale Serve.

  • One-time codes, keyboard first

Connect a new device by scanning a one-time QR code. On a Mac, move around with Slack-style shortcuts. English and Korean.

FAQ

Questions

Where does my data live?

On your Mac. Happen keeps channels and threads in SQLite under ~/Library/Application Support/happen, and the server only listens on 127.0.0.1.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no Happen account or cloud service. A browser connects with a one-time code: happen open on the Mac, or a QR code from a device that is already connected.

How do I use it from my phone?

Serve Happen over HTTPS on your tailnet with Tailscale Serve, then open that address on your phone, connect it with a QR code, and add it to your Home Screen. Happen never opens itself to the internet.

Does Happen run my agents?

No. Your Chief of Staff is your own Claude Code or OpenCode session, and it delegates to its own workers. Happen is where it talks to you.

How do I update or uninstall?

happen upgrade runs brew upgrade, and the server restarts on the new version. To remove it: brew services stop happen && brew uninstall happen. Your settings and data stay.
